چکیده

The problem of Information Assurance is approached from the point of view of Kolmogorov Complexity and Minimum Message Length criteria. Several theoretical results are obtained, possible applications are discussed and a new metric for measuring complexity is introduced. Utilization of Kolmogorov Complexity like metrics as conserved parameters to detect abnormal system behavior is explored. Data and process vulnerabilities are put forward as two different dimensions of vulnerability that can be discussed in terms of Kolmogorov Complexity. Finally, these results are utilized to conduct complexitybased vulnerability analysis.

Active Virtual Network Management Prediction: Complexity as a Framework for Prediction, Optimization, and Assurance

Research into active networking has provided the incentive to re-visit what has traditionally been classified as distinct properties and characteristics of information transfer such as protocol versus service; at a more fundamental level this paper considers the blending of computation and communication by means of complexity. The specific service examined in this paper is network self-predicti...

Kolmogorov complexity estimates for detection of viruses in biologically inspired security systems: A comparison with traditional approaches

— This paper presents results in two mutually complementary areas: distributed immunological information assurance and a new signature matching technique based upon Kolmogorov Complexity. This paper introduces a distributed model for security based on biological paradigms of Epidemiology and Immunology. In this model each node in the network has an immune system that identifies and destroys pat...

Shannon Information and Kolmogorov Complexity

We compare the elementary theories of Shannon information and Kolmogorov complexity, the extent to which they have a common purpose, and where they are fundamentally different. We discuss and relate the basic notions of both theories: Shannon entropy versus Kolmogorov complexity, the relation of both to universal coding, Shannon mutual information versus Kolmogorov (‘algorithmic’) mutual inform...

3D Scene and Object Classification Based on Information Complexity of Depth Data

In this paper the problem of 3D scene and object classification from depth data is addressed. In contrast to high-dimensional feature-based representation, the depth data is described in a low dimensional space. In order to remedy the curse of dimensionality problem, the depth data is described by a sparse model over a learned dictionary. Exploiting the algorithmic information theory, a new def...

The vulnerability analysis technique presented in this paper takes into account the innovation of an attacker. A metric for innovation is not new; 700 years ago William of Occam suggested a technique [6]. The salient point of Occam’s Razor and complexity-based vulnerability analysis is that the better one understands a phenomenon, the more concisely the phenomenon can be described. This is the ...
